US, Ukraine and Russia to hold three-way talks in UAE

Jan 23, 2026

New York [US], January 23: US, Ukrainian and Russian representatives will hold three-way peace talks in the United Arab Emirates later this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday.
Zelensky described the negotiations scheduled for Friday and Saturday as the "first trilateral meeting" to be held among the countries. "I think this is good," he said.
The announcement came at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, where he met with US President Donald Trump on Thursday. The US president described the meeting as "good" but called the effort to the end the war launched by Russia an "ongoing process." US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff was due to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin later on Thursday before travelling to the UAE.
There have been no direct official meetings between the two warring parties for several months, with Istanbul being the most recent venue.
However, Russian and Ukrainian military officials have used Abu Dhabi for informal meetings to discuss the exchange of prisoners of war. Since returning to office in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly set off bouts of frenzied diplomacy to end the war, which began in February 2022. (DPA)
