Three injured in shooting in New York's Times Square

Aug 10, 2025

New York [US], August 10: Three people were wounded in a shooting in New York's Times Square in the early hours of Saturday morning, US media reported, citing information from the city's police.
An 18-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man and a 65-year-old man were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, the reports said.
Police have arrested a suspect. Parts of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, which meet at the square were closed off, with more than a dozen police cars attending the shooting.
At the end of July, a man shot and killed four people in a Manhattan skyscraper before shooting himself.
That attack was reported to be the deadliest in the city in 25 years.
Crime rates have declined in New York since a surge in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
While New York has relatively strict laws, firearms are fairly easy to procure in the United States and there are many in circulation.
Debate on stricter controls repeatedly erupts after mass shootings, but comprehensive reform has been blocked by right-wing politicians and the powerful gun lobby.
