US intel expresses concerns over election meddling

Washington DC (USA), Aug 8: The US intelligence community has expressed concern about interference in the upcoming US presidential election not just by Russia, but also China and Iran.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence raised the issue in an analysis of foreign election interference released on Friday.
It expressed concerns over activities by China and Iran to prevent Trump from getting reelected, and Russia's efforts to get him reelected.
It says China views Trump as unpredictable and does not want to see him win.
China has grown increasingly critical of the Trump administration over everything from its response to Hong Kong to its actions against Chinese social media apps.
The assessment says Iran is spreading disinformation because its leadership believes Trump's reelection would mean a continuation of US pressure on Iran.
It says individuals linked to the Kremlin are trying to aid Trump's reelection bid. It says Moscow is using a variety of measures to denigrate the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Joe Biden.
In response to the analysis, the Trump and Biden campaigns have criticized each other for receiving support from foreign actors. Foreign election interference is likely to become a major election issue.
